If you have ever struggled with the BIG question, "What will I do with my life?", you may appreciate the smaller scope of this question instead, "What would I like to do first, after I graduate? 


For either question, your career practitioner would love to help! 

Career Assessments from the Career Practitioners 

Career assessment  are free to Horizon School Division students.  Email Garth at [email protected] and he will send Horizon School Division students a link.  After the assessment is completed the practitioner will go over the report with the student.

Extra Effort - Step 3 - Explore Career Interests with Holland Codes 

Holland Codes is a way of quickly understanding personality traits and matching them to a group of occupations. 
  • Take the assessment from Minnesota
  • Extra - Watch actors dramatize (or over dramatize) the personality types with the YouTube video
  • Extra - Watch the second video for a good overview of what the Holland Codes are, complete with reference to Big Bang Theory characters.

In the old order, life was planned out and you just took the prescribed steps to achieve your career.  This video shows you a different, potentially inspirational way to think about your progress.

This is a motivational production with a hokey ending but the main thoughts are worth consideration

Duration: about 5 min 
​Just don't have the energy to get going on your career plans?
  If this video is correct the act of creating something may well give you that energy. Watch this 5 min long video to find a key to unlocking your energy and enthusiasm.

Theme: Use these tools to plan your career 
Duration: about 2.5 min 

​Learning Clicks was an Alberta Government service that helps students with their transition from High School.  This video tells the story of a graduate who finds the experience of moving on to be overwhelming and not at all exciting and then we see how he resolves this issue.

Theme: Don't follow your passion follow opportunity to a great career 
Duration: about 5 min 

Mike Row tells us we should not follow passion in our careers but  follow opportunity instead.  Is he speaking truth or is he pragmatic or is he a sell-out to the establishment?

Theme: Straight forward career planning ideas
Duration: about 4 min but when she talks about the university you can stop 

University College Dublin walks you through a career process.  There handouts will not work but I have some Canadian resources for you.  

Great Idea 7 
Theme: The KEY to living a Perfect Life 
Duration: about 25 min 

Frank says he has experienced "A Perfect Life" but he has experienced more difficulty then most people will have to face.  Could Frank's perception be clear, even though he is old and has been through it? Could you live a perfect life.
